Programs Offered

PRE-KINDER READINESS - The Pre-K Readiness Program has been designed to prepare your child for kindergarten. The focus is on early language skills, cognitive skills, and pre-reading skills. Your child will be able to learn in a place where they can be creative. The daily activities within the preschool are designed so that each child will grow emotionally, physically, socially, and academically.

EARLY READING - This program is designed for the beginning reader and targets phonemic awareness, decoding and word recognition, vocabulary development and comprehension skills. Students learn in a multi-sensory, print-rich environment that combines the strongest elements of both whole language and phonics programs.

READING FOUNDATIONS - The Reading Foundations program provides explicit instruction on core vocabulary and comprehension skills and then progresses on to advanced critical thinking. Skills are addressed individually, practiced and then applied through reading and responding to a variety of fictional and nonfiction texts.

ELEMENTS OF WRITING - The Elements of Writing program focuses on developing and improving mechanics of writing and composition skills. Students demonstrate their command of sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, capitalization and spelling while they learn the process of writing and work on a variety of essay topics.

MATH - Enriched Math is a fundamental math program designed to develop strong conceptual knowledge, computation skills and problem solving abilities. The curriculum covers all basic material through the eighth grade level.

ALGEBRA - In the Algebra program, students master algebraic skills and concepts in the areas of integers, variables, equations and inequalities, polynomials, rational numbers and expressions, graphing, radicals and quadratic functions. The program objectives are aligned with the California Mathematics Content Standards.

GEOMETRY - Designed for the high school student, the Geometry program introduces relationships and properties of lines and figures. The program teaches geometric concepts as well as logical thinking and deductive reasoning skills.

TEST PREP - Preparation for a variety of tests: SAT, GED, High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE), Catholic High School Entrance Exam (HSPT), Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE).

TUTORIAL ASSISTANCE - Homework support is offered for students who need assistance with assigned classroom work.

STUDY SKILLS - The Study Skills Program focuses on organization and time management skills, note-taking strategies, and test-taking strategies. Students are able to identify their personal learning styles, maintain organization, take effective notes in class, and improve reading comprehension and speed. The Study Skills Program helps students become independent and accountable towards their own learning.

GED - SDLC's GED program is designed to give a struggling student the skills necessary to pass the GED. Reading Comprehension, General Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Grammar and Writing are all covered with test taking skills emphasized every step of the way. This program will help you or your struggling student get over the stumbling blocks which lay on the road to success.

SAT - Provide your student with the tools they need to succeed! SDLC’s SAT preparation program focuses on all skills students need to reach the highest possible score on the SAT. Critical Reading and all areas of math are covered in depth, as well as writing and test-taking skills. Your student will also receive explicit instruction in writing under pressure. This will provide them with the tools they need to succeed in the essay portion of the new SAT.

HSPT - Our HSPT preparation program focuses on all skills students need to reach the highest possible score on the Catholic High School Entrance Exam. Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning skills are intensely covered, as well as all of the traditional classroom skills necessary for success. All skills which are covered are taught with this specific test in mind, conditioning students to use the best test-taking strategies. Your student will also receive support from our staff in preparing to apply to his or her school of choice.
